About the event
SmAlbany Poets Inaugural Season Kickoff
Join us as we launch the inaugural season of SmAlbany Poets, a youth slam poetry initiative rooted in creativity, confidence, community, and possibility. This special kickoff celebration will introduce the vision behind the program while bringing together young people, families, artists, educators, and community supporters for an evening centered on the power of voice and expression.
The event will feature comedian J.B. Carter as host, an inaugural season address from Sherrell Byrd, and powerful performances from featured poets Kenzie Alyse and Jabir Rasool, also known as Third Rail Poet.
More than an event, this kickoff marks the beginning of a new space where young people are encouraged to create, write, speak, belong, and lead. Through poetry, storytelling, mentorship, and community connection, SmAlbany Poets is committed to helping youth discover the strength of their own voices and the possibilities that come with being heard.
